Student Accommodation
The Cheltenham campus, which had been previously used for teaching and learning, was transformed into a student village providing a high-quality living environment for first year, international and postgraduate students.
Pittville Student Village created a more appealing and contemporary facility catering for the needs of the modern-day student. It provided additional facilities and services to enhance the overall experience of living on campus, including the provision of a gym, dining hall, faith room, a new students’ union office and over 1,000 sq m of dedicated office space for university staff.

The £57m project to transform the Pittville Campus in Cheltenham was designed to create a high-spec and vibrant scheme which would ultimately increase demand for places at the University of Gloucestershire. Alongside the construction of 577 new student rooms, and the refurbishment of 214 existing rooms, our project delivered a student refectory, bar, gym, study spaces and offices for over 100 members of the University of Gloucestershire faculty staff.
The new buildings on Pittville Campus were designed in accordance with the university’s masterplan and the local council’s Urban Design Framework. In developing our proposal, Uliving were able to demonstrate that the massing of the buildings complemented both the existing built environment and that envisaged within the master plan. We are proud to have received the BREEAM certificate of Excellence for our work.
To complete this project, we had to meet very challenging timescales, with less than a year to hand the accommodation over to the university. The key to achieving this was the successful collaboration of all partners and the commitment and expertise of everyone involved.
