The Meadows, which was completed in 2013, comprises 420 en-suite bedrooms in clusters of between five and seven students, and 228 bedrooms within 19 student townhouses (each townhouse having 12 bedrooms, six bathrooms and a shared open-plan living space with kitchen/diner). The Quays comprises the refurbishment of 780 existing bedrooms in cluster flats to a very high standard.

The scheme provides a vibrant place to live for the students, centred around the Pavilion – a dedicated 1,100 sq ft social space including a common room, laundry and shop.

The site is the first milestone of the University of Essex’s broader plan to create a Knowledge Gateway and the design sets the benchmark in terms of architecture and creates an attractive route to the main campus.

The Meadows was designed to deliver a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, Energy Performance Certificate ‘A’ rating, and Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
